Helsinki Longsword Open is the first open, international longsword tournament in Finland, organized since 2014 by the greater Helsinki area clubs EHMS and Vorschlag Helsinki.
In 2016, the tournament will be fenced in Helsinki on the 23rd of January. The longsword will be in two divisions: men’s and women’s. In addition, there will be a longsword cutting tournament with limited slots. You can approach us with any questions at email@example.com.
Helsinki Longsword Open is proud to be a part of the Nordic Historical Fencing League.
We have a brand new venue this year: the sports hall at Ruskeasuon liikuntapuisto, Ratsastie 10, Helsinki. The venue is located about a 300 meter walk from the nearest tram and bus stops, easily accessible from central Helsinki by public transport. For using mass transit in Helsinki, be sure to refer to the Helsinki Region Transport journey planner.
The tournament runs from 8:00 in the morning on Saturday, 23rd of January, and will finish by 21:00. A more detailed schedule will be published after registration is complete.
Full rules will be published later!
This year’s Helsinki Longsword Open will also feature a Longsword cutting tournament. You can bring your own sharp sword for the event, or rent the sword we provide for 15€. The tournament will be multiple rounds, with people being eliminated each round until 4 finalists are left. Cutting patterns and rules will be posted later.
Unfortunately we will not be able to provide accommodation this year. For those coming from out of town, we recommend Eurohostel as an affordable option. The journey between Eurohostel and the venue can be made with two trams in about 40 minutes; be sure to check the journey planner for exact schedules.
If you wish to stay closer to the venue, Scandic Park Helsinki is located within a 20 minute bus trip from the venue.
